Biden’s age raises voter concerns as he turns 81

Washington, United States: President of the United States Joe Biden pardoned the Thanksgiving turkeys at the White House as he celebrated his 81 birthday on Monday. However, along with the birthday celebration, the concerns related to his increasing age and US voters’ doubts have also erupted.

According to various polls conducted by national polling agencies, the votes of the United States have shown worry about Biden being the oldest president in the history of America – and if he becomes the president for the second time, he will be 86 by the end of his term. Reports have suggested that his age is one of the biggest concerns of the American voters.

The news agency AFP has underscored that the worries and concerns are because of the series of trips, slips and stumbles – from losing his balance on the steps of Air Force One to occasionally rambling answer questions during press conferences.

Is age a concern for former President Donald Trump?

Reportedly, Donald Trump, who himself is 77 years old, has not yet caused the same concerns among the voters. It is to be known that Trump and Biden will face each other during the upcoming presidential elections in 2024.

Other’s comments

AFP reported that a government and politics teacher at the University of Maryland – David Karol, stated that President Biden isn’t wrong in anything but is facing challenges in order to change the perspective of Americans about his age.

“He is lucid, but people just have this perception,” Karol told the news agency.

Biden’s efforts to defuse people’s concern

Earlier, when a reporter tripped in the media area during a union workers meet in Illinois, Biden joked, “I just want to tell press personnel that wasn’t me.” He further added, “I know I only look like I’m 30, but I’ve been around for a long time.”

At times, Biden has used his age to present himself as a reliable and experienced political figure, suggesting that growing older comes with a bit of wisdom. However, if he is re-elected, then he will be leaving office after nine years older than the last record-holder – Ronald Reagan, who stepped down at the age of 77.

What do the polls have to tell?

According to a recent poll conducted by ABC/Washington Post, seventy-four percent (74%) of people expressed that President Biden is too old to serve a second term. Along with this, around fifty percent (50%) thought the same for Donald Trump.

In addition to this, a poll by Yahoo or YouGov explained that fifty-four percent (54%) of Americans claimed that Biden doesn’t have “the competence to carry out the job of a president” – the percentage has gone up from forty one percent (41%) from 2020 elections.
