United States: A recent investigation by the Federalist has uncovered a major astroturfing effort by the Harris-Walz campaign to manipulate Reddit’s platform and give a falsely inflated impression of Vice President Kamala Harris’s popularity. Reddit, which has already banned this article to prevent its spread, has long been known for its left-leaning stance and heavy-handed censorship of conservative voices. Now, evidence suggests the Harris-Walz campaign is pushing these tactics to the extreme, engaging in widespread manipulation of Reddit’s algorithm to sway public opinion and, ultimately, the 2024 election.
The term “astroturfing” refers to a fake grassroots campaign in which paid staffers and volunteers pose as regular people to create a facade of popularity around a candidate. The Harris-Walz campaign allegedly directs staffers to engage in such behavior on Reddit by using “Lead Posters” who spam pro-Harris content on popular subreddits like “Politics” while tracking every post and comment in a shared Google spreadsheet. According to internal communications, Gabrielle Lynn, a paid Democrat staffer, circulates a “Daily Messaging Guidance” each morning to dictate the posts and comments that volunteers need to follow, giving the campaign control over every word.
The Harris-Walz campaign’s volunteers operate with extreme precision. The Federalist reports that volunteers monitor a list of 100 target subreddits and carefully time their posts to avoid Reddit’s spam filters, a coordinated attempt to keep their propaganda undetected by Reddit’s automated systems. After volunteers post, they update the spreadsheet with links, and other team members swarm these posts with upvotes and comments to artificially inflate their visibility. This systematic manipulation skews Reddit’s algorithm, making pro-Harris posts appear at the top of the site’s pages, convincing users of Harris’s “popularity.”
This operation isn’t just about Reddit engagement—it’s about manipulating voters. By flooding the platform with positive content about Harris, the campaign is creating a narrative that Harris has far more support than she truly does, potentially influencing undecided voters or those swayed by what appears to be popular opinion.
Despite Reddit’s terms of service clearly prohibiting this kind of coordinated manipulation, the Harris-Walz campaign’s own data shows that in just 15 days, its team managed to post 2,551 pro-Harris posts, generating over 5.7 million upvotes and 418,000 comments.
This behaviour is a direct attempt to influence the 2024 election by creating the illusion of popular support, masking the true opinions of American voters. With Reddit banning the article to shield the Harris-Walz campaign from scrutiny, the case highlights the dangerous lengths that Democrat operatives are willing to go to manipulate the narrative and control public opinion. The consequences of such behavior stretch far beyond a single social media site—this is about the integrity of the democratic process and a candidate’s willingness to win by any means necessary, regardless of the ethical costs.
