Israel-Hamas conflict: White House clarifies Biden’s remark on beheaded children

Washington DC, United States: The White House has cleared the air about President Joe Biden’s statement about beheaded children. Biden, in broader remarks about the support of his administration for Israel, said, “I never really thought that I would see and have confirmed pictures of terrorists beheading children.”

The spokesperson of the White House, in this regard, replied to a question by The Washington Post and said that the comment by the President was based on the news reports by the government of Israel.

According to the report by the news organization, she can be quoted saying, “A White House spokesperson later clarified that US officials and the president have not seen pictures or confirmed such reports independently.”

It was further reported that the White House has also cited that the comments by the President were “about the alleged atrocities on the claims from Netanyahu’s spokesman and media reports from Israel.”

What does the Israeli Army have to say on this comment?

The Army of Israel has denied giving any comment to confirm the claims, which were repeated by Tal Heinrich, the spokesperson of the Prime Minister of Israel. However, it should be noted that the military officials of Israel have mentioned that the militants of Hamas have “brutally butchered” women and children.

The Army officials have outlined that Hamas is more dangerous and brutal as compared to ISIS. During an interaction with reports, military officials mentioned that the women and children were “brutally butchered in an ISIS way of action.”

According to the claims by the Palestinian terrorist group – Hamas, the statements related to the militants beheading children and assaulting women are “lies.”

Social media is flooded with various fake images and videos:

The social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, X and TikTok, are overflooded with videos and images showing a disrupted situation in Israel and Gaza. The platforms are swamped with fake news on the Israel-Hamas war, the reports by Al Jazeera investigation read.

The claims have outlined that a major number of unverified posts are being shared on Elon Musk’s X, formerly known as Twitter. The platform is filled with claims of rapes and beheadings, the reports outlined.

EU warning to the social media platforms:

Earlier this week, the European Union warned the CEOs of Meta and X to remove the unverified and disturbing posts related to the war between Israel and Hamas. The bloc has given the time for 24 hours to Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk to remove these videos and images.

The warning was shared through a letter by the European Commissioner Thierry Breton to the respective head.

The letter by EU Commissioner Breton stated, “In light of a number of serious developments, let me recall the precise obligations regarding content moderation under the EU Digital Services Act.”

Along with this, the letter cited, “Firstly, following the terrorist attacks carried out by Hamas against Israel, we are seeing a surge of illegal content and disinformation being disseminated in the EU via certain platforms.”

“I would ask you to be very vigilant to ensure strict compliance with the DSA rules on terms of service, on the requirement of timely, diligent and objective action, following notices of illegal content in the EU,” it further read.

Along with this, the EU also warned about the disinformation regarding the elections in some of the states.

On October 12, the conflict between Israel and Hamas has entered to the Day 6. To date, over 1,300 people have been killed in Israel, according to the health authorities of the nation. Whereas in Gaza, the death toll has crossed 1,200 and around 5,600 people are reported to be injured.
