United States: First Lady Melania Trump has put Hunter Biden on legal notice, demanding an immediate retraction, public apology, and removal of what she calls “false, defamatory, disparaging, and inflammatory statements”—or face a $1 billion lawsuit.
Fox News Digital obtained a letter dated August 6, sent by Alejandro Brito, her litigation counsel, to Biden and his attorney, Abbe Lowell. The demand stems from comments Biden made during an early August Channel 5 with Andrew Callaghan YouTube interview, in which he claimed Jeffrey Epstein introduced Melania to Donald Trump.
Brito’s letter describes the claim as “extremely salacious” and states that its widespread online circulation has caused “overwhelming financial and reputational harm” to the First Lady. He asserts Biden’s alleged source—journalist Michael Wolff—has a history of fabrications, noting that The Daily Beast already retracted and deleted its Epstein-related article about Melania following a cease-and-desist from her legal team, according to CNN.
“Despite this, you have unjustifiably relied upon Mr. Wolff’s false… statements and maliciously elected to republish them,” Brito wrote.
The letter accuses Biden of acting with “actual malice” and self-promotion, warning that he has “no viable defense” against the damage done. It instructs him to:
- Retract the video and related statements in a manner as public as the original publication.
- Issue a formal apology.
- Preserve all evidence, including communications and source records.
Failure to comply by August 7, 2025, at 5 pm EST, Brito warns, would leave Melania “no alternative” but to sue for damages exceeding $1 billion.
Sources told Fox News Digital Biden missed the deadline and instead leaked the legal letter to a “friendly reporter,” signaling concern about his liability. Biden’s team has not publicly commented, according to CNN.
This legal move follows similar retractions from The Daily Beast, which apologized and removed its story, and political strategist James Carville, who scrubbed remarks from his podcast and issued his own apology after receiving a letter from Melania’s attorney.
Her aide, Nick Clemens, told Fox News Digital the First Lady’s legal team is “actively ensuring immediate retractions and apologies by those who spread malicious, defamatory falsehoods,” adding that her memoir, Melania, contains the true account of how she met the former president.
Melania underscored the point by posting screenshots of Carville’s apology and a crossed-out YouTube video titled “The Epstein Connection: Trump & Melania.”
