United States: Reports indicate that President Joe Biden is now ‘amenable’ to the notion of stepping aside, potentially paving the way for Vice President Kamala Harris to rise as a contender for the Democratic Party’s nomination.
Within the inner circles of the Democratic Party, apprehensions about Biden’s candidacy are growing, underscoring the increasing urgency of the situation, according to the reports.
“The discreet dialogues with Capitol Hill persist,” a senior Democratic adviser conveyed to CNN. “He’s showing receptivity, not as resolute as he appears publicly.”
“He’s transitioned from declaring, ‘Kamala can’t win,’ to inquiring, ‘Do you think Kamala can win?’” the adviser elaborated. “The final stance remains ambiguous, but he seems more inclined to listen.”
In a public interview on Wednesday, Biden mentioned his willingness to consider resignation should a “medical condition” be diagnosed.
This declaration coincides with reports that Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-NY) urged Biden to relinquish his reelection bid during a confidential meeting, as per reports.
On Wednesday, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) implored Biden to terminate his campaign prematurely, asserting that the nation was “at a crossroads.”
“A second Trump presidency could erode the very bedrock of our democracy, and I harbor grave doubts about whether the President can beat Donald Trump in November,” Schiff declared.
Reportedly, he emphasized that while Biden must ultimately make the decision, it was time for him to “pass the torch” and “cement his legacy of leadership” by enabling another Democrat to challenge Trump.
“I will extend every possible support to their cause,” Schiff vowed. “There is but one paramount objective: defeating Donald Trump. The stakes are excessively high.”
The irony lies in Schiff’s previous stance when probing Special Counsel Robert K. Hur regarding President Biden’s cognitive state.
It seems the Democratic Party is fracturing at a critical juncture before the 2024 election, the reports claimed.
