Republican Rep running for House Speaker to join interview

Washington DC, United States: Republican Representatives who will contest to become the next speaker of the United States House, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, Judiciary Committee chairman Jim Jordan and Representative for Ohio, and Republican Kevin Hern, Representative for Okla will participate in an interview on Fox News.

The Republican candidates will face off on Monday night in a joint interview, which will be hosted by Bret Baier. The segment, featuring all the candidates, will begin at 6 pm on Monday, October 9.

According to several reports, these three Republicans are the main contenders. Out of the total, two – Jordan and Scalise have officially announced their interest in becoming the next US Speaker, after Kevin McCarthy, who is Republican Representative for California.

It is to be noted that the 45th President of the United States – Donald Trump, expressed his support for Jim Jordan and has stated that he endorsed Jordan. Trump also underscored that Jordan will serve as a great speaker.

However, Steve Scalise announced his bid to run in the race on Wednesday. He submitted a letter and stated that he would be contesting, leaving his House majority leader position. He shared the letter a day after Kevin McCarthy was fired from the position.

It is to be noted that the allies of McCarthy are not supporting Scalise, saying that he did nothing for him during his leadership. Along with this, Scalise faces questions about his physical ability to do the job as he is battling cancer. However, whenever he is asked about his health condition, he replies, “I feel great.”

Besides this, Hern has not officially entered the race as he has neither announced his candidacy nor submitted any letter.

The voting process for a new speaker will take place next week after the return of the chamber.

Debate is a horrible idea, says Rep. Carlos Gimenez:

According to the reports by CNN, Republican Carlos Gimenez, who is a Representative for Florida, has stated that the idea of conducting a debate is “horrible and unproductive.”

“If both of them thought this was a good idea, then maybe they don’t have a pulse of the conference. I’m having serious problems,” Gimenez was quoted saying.

According to the reports, Jordan will meet with his GOP colleagues before joining the interview. This decision was taken after he faced backlash from other House Republicans.
