He added that at around 12:30 am, the shelter-in-place order was ended following the building was cleared by the SWAT officers, where the suspect was feared to be hiding. Many reports claim that shortly after, dozens of students started coming out of the student center. The students were reportedly wearing gowns and suits.

The police officers outlined that students were feeling overwhelmed and were trying to process the chaos and fear.

The incident took place shortly after the coronation ceremony of Mister and Miss Morgan State at the Murphy Fine Arts Centre. Reportedly, at the time of the shooting, students were heading toward a campus ball.

The news related to the incident spread like wildfire and gradually, parents and guardians of the trapped students started gathering at the south entrance to campus. A Morgan State alum named James Willoughby, whose daughter is a freshman, stood outside the campus until he saw her.

“I’m gonna be here until I can physically see her,” he stated.

Along with him, Glenmore Blackwood also came to the campus and mentioned that he would not leave until he made sure that his son was fine.

“That’s my son. He’s going to make sure I know he’s OK,” Blackwood said. “It’s just sad. They were doing a good thing — an event to promote positivity — and all this negativity happens,” Mr Blackwood stated.

In this regard, Police of the region shared a press release and outlined that on-duty officers responded to the shooting report at around 9:25 pm.

A Baltimore resident named Konnor Crowder, who witnessed the crime scene, mentioned that he and his friends were waiting for the coronation ball when they saw a bunch of people running.
