Top Candidates in the US Political Arena: Election Recap

As the dust settles on the 2020 US elections, it’s becoming clear who the top candidates are in the American political arena. From the presidential race to local elections, there have been several standout politicians who have made a significant impact on the political landscape.

In the presidential race, President-elect Joe Biden emerged as the top candidate, securing victory over the incumbent President Donald Trump. Biden’s long political career and experience as Vice President under Barack Obama made him a formidable opponent. His ability to connect with a wide range of voters, from progressives to moderate Democrats, was a key factor in his success. Biden’s running mate, Kamala Harris, also made history as the first woman, first Black woman, and first woman of South Asian descent to be elected Vice President.

On the Republican side, President Trump garnered strong support from his base and continued to be a polarizing figure in American politics. Although he lost the election, his influence on the Republican party is undeniable, and many GOP candidates aligned themselves with his policies and ideologies.

In the Senate races, several top candidates emerged as well. Democrats were able to secure a narrow majority in the Senate, thanks in part to successful campaigns by candidates like Mark Kelly in Arizona and John Hickenlooper in Colorado. Meanwhile, Republicans defended key seats, with candidates like Susan Collins in Maine and Lindsey Graham in South Carolina winning re-election.

In the House of Representatives, there were also several standout candidates who made significant gains for their parties. Notably, Democrats retained their majority in the House, and top candidates like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar won re-election, while Republicans, such as Madison Cawthorn in North Carolina, joined the ranks of the House.

In local elections, numerous candidates made waves with their successful campaigns and victories. Whether it was the election of the first openly transgender state senator in Delaware, Sarah McBride, or the election of the first openly gay Black man to the US Congress, Mondaire Jones in New York, there were many historic moments in this year’s elections.

Overall, the 2020 US elections showcased a diverse and dynamic group of top candidates from both parties, reflecting the changing demographics and political landscape of the country. As the country looks ahead to the future, it’s clear that these top candidates will continue to shape American politics for years to come.
