United States: Former President Donald Trump demanded the resignation of Director of FBI Christopher Wray, accusing him of deceiving Congress regarding President Biden’s cognitive acuity. The demand has been presented by Trump on Wednesday.
The Trump-appointed FBI director, whose tenure is slated to extend until 2027, has repeatedly faced severe rebuke from Trump and his proponents.
Wray addressed the House Judiciary Committee earlier Wednesday concerning an assassination attempt targeting Trump.
During the session, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) inquired when Wray first perceived “cognitive decline” in Biden.
Wray responded that he infrequently meets with the president, adding, “But what you’re describing is not something that I’ve observed during my interactions.”
On his Truth Social platform, Trump asserted that Wray’s response implied he “found nothing wrong, mentally or physically, with ‘Joe.'”
“If that is the case, Director Wray should resign immediately from the FBI and stop ‘sweet talking’ Congress every time he goes up, which he loves to do because anybody can see that Joe Biden is cognitively and physically challenged, and if you can’t see that, you sure as hell can’t be running the FBI,” Trump declared.
Secret Service Director’s Resignation
US Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle stepped down on Tuesday following an assassination attempt on former President Trump earlier this month at a Pennsylvania rally, Axios reported.
Cheatle endured intense criticism and escalating bipartisan demands for her resignation after the Trump rally shooting. She admitted it was the “most significant operational failure of the Secret Service in decades.”
A lone gunman killed one individual and injured the Republican presidential nominee and two others.
Cheatle’s resignation coincides with the Secret Service facing heightened scrutiny from various federal and congressional investigations. The agency did not immediately respond to Axios’ request for comment.
Former President Trump told Newsmax on Tuesday he believed Cheatle had “little choice” but to resign following the assassination attempt.
“It should have happened, I would say, within an hour — not nine days, ten days,” he remarked, adding, “That would seem to be inevitable.”
