Trump will not fill the position of US House Speaker: Rep. Ken Buck

Washington DC, United States: As the debate on ‘who will be the next speaker of US House of Representatives’ continues, Republican Ken Buck cleared that former US President Donald Trump will not be the next leader of the lower chamber.

Buck underlined that “that’s not going to happen,” when he was asked about Republicans who want Trump to fill the position. This statement was given by the leader during ABC’s “This Week”.

He continued saying, “It shouldn’t happen, and we have a lot of talent inside the House.” “We’ll settle this inside the House Republican conference, and we will elect someone who’ll have the unity and the backing of the full conference,” he added, according to the reports.

Buck, who serves as the Representative of Colombia, was one of the Republican who voted against Kevin McCarthy, Representative of California, removed him from the position of House Speaker.

Why Trump was counted as eligible participant for the position of House Speaker?

The curiosity about Trump’s interest in the position raised after he (Donald Trump) mentioned that he would temporarily consider to accept the position of House Speaker if Republicans deadlock on selecting a new speaker. However, he also outlined that he is focused on 2024 Presidential Elections.

This statement was given by former President during an interview with Fox News. He said, “GOP leaders “have asked me if I would take it for a short period of time for the party, until they come to a conclusion − I’m not doing it because I want to − I will do it if necessary, should they not be able to make their decision.”

However, Donald Trump showed support towards Republican Jim Jordan, Representative for Ohio for the position of House Speaker.

Kevin McCarthy’s ouster:

McCarthy was removed from the position of US House speaker after some Republicans voted against his leadership, using tactic known as a “motion to vacate”. It is believed that a few lawmakers were against him because “he worked with Democrats to avert a government shutdown”.

However, no Democratic supported McCarthy and stated that House Republicans should fight their battle themselves.

According to the new CBS News poll, this removal is supported by majority of Americans, as well. The poll suggested that around 60 percent of American adults have supported House’s move to oust McCarthy.

It was further reported that around 75 percent of Americans agreed with that McCarthy was not effective as the speaker of the US House. This opinion was raised after McCarthy cut a deal to avert a government shutdown last month. This decision of him angered many of the members of his own party.

According to the poll, approximately 54 percent of the Americans, identifying themselves as Conservatives, gave a thumbs up to the removal of McCarthy. However, poll has mentioned that around 70 percent of the Americans, calling themselves liberals, backed the move.

Reports suggest that as many as 2,155 American adults participated in the poll and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.9 percentage points.

The Republicans, who voted against McCarthy, were led by Matt Gaetz, Representative for Florida. This development has landed the House into a new era of chaos. However, it has been anticipated that House Republicans will meet next week and will find a middle ground.

According to the reports, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, Representative Jim Jordan have formally expressed their bid to become the next speaker for the House. It is to be mentioned that Jordan has been supported by former President Donald Trump whereas Scalise has been questioned because of his ill-health, as he is battling cancer.

For now, House speakership is being handled by Patrick McHenry.
